Citrine and Topaz the November Birthstones – Dynamic Blues, Reds, and Oranges.

November is blessed with two luxurious birthstones topaz and citrine!

Topaz consists of bright blues, yellows, oranges, reds, and pinks. Topaz is thought to bring balance to emotions and provide for a harmonious life. The yellow topaz has been found in many ancient gem representations, in fact supposedly the Egyptian Sun God Ra’s gem symbol is a fiery topaz. There are two highly sought after topaz varieties, the Imperial Topaz and the Precious Topaz. The Imperial topaz is red in color and found in Russia and Brazil. The Precious Topaz is intensely yellow and mined in Brazil. Topaz is quite hard, not as hard as diamonds and sapphires, but just next to them on the MOHS scale.

Citrine is mainly yellow and orange. Metaphysically it represents healing and vitality. Citrine is a 7 on the MOHS hardness scale, this means it’s quite durable and is a great gem to use in jewelry design. Citrine is formed when purple amethyst is exposed to extreme heat, this changes the color to yellow, orange, dark orange and even sometimes brown.  Citrine is also said to be regenerative to health. Brazil produces a large amount of citrine. It is not one of the most used gemstones but it can add an extra flair to any custom jewelry design.

If you’re looking to create a November birthstone piece, either topaz or citrine would be a great choice. They both can be cut and polished to a fiery translucent gem. If you’re looking for an orange or yellow piece either gem will work. If you’re looking for a dark to light blue then topaz would be the best choice. You can even find green topaz, which is aptly named rainforest topaz. For any custom design idea, you have give us a call at (210) 490-2404 or use the custom jewelry design online form.
